SHADOW HEALTH SECRETARY TO ATTEND EMERGENCY MEETING ON GUILDFORD'S A & E

5.32.12pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 25th Sep 2006

Professor Steve Webb MP, Lib Dem Shadow Secretary of State will be visiting Guildford on Monday October 2 to address a public meeting called by the Lib Dems to protest about proposals to close A & E and other departments at the Royal Surrey Hospital.

He will take part in a fact finding tour ahead of addressing a public meeting to be held The Main Hall, Guildford College at 7.30.

Sue Doughty, Parliamentary Spokesperson for Guildford said "Steve has been very concerned about the threats to the hospital and has asked to see the situation for himself. Many many people have contacted me since I first raised this possibility of the closure of A & E at the beginning of the year. It is vital that they make their feelings known at this meeting so that decision makers are left in no doubt about the real risk that these plans will cause."

Steve Webb recently produced a hard hitting report outlining the problems the health service faces across the UK and has been working with Sue on looking at the local situation.
