Former MP challenges PCT's plans for Guildford

Speaking at the Guildford Local Committee (Thursday 9th February) Sue Doughty told the committee: "I have substantial concerns about the impact of the plans by the PCT to provide more nursing at home. With the increased building in the town centre, it is getting harder for community nurses and care workers to find parking places, and this eats into the time which they should be spending providing care. Although the Chief Executive of the Primary Care Trust has pointed out that more can be done with remote information, nurses are still needed to change dressings and other nursing activities."

She added, "It is important to remember that these proposals will affect Guildford residents as well as Waverley residents. They too use Milford Hospital which is threatened with closure."

Sue also added her concerns about the cuts proposed by Surrey County Council to Adult Services. The partnership working by the Royal Surrey County Hospital, the Primary Care Trust and Adult Services is essential if people are to be released from the hospital at the right time. Delays in discharge lead to fines on the County Council. We may find ourselves in the situation where money saved by Adult Services is less than the fines which will be imposed on them.
