4.33.57pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 31st Mar 2005

Sue Doughty MP has written to the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Education calling for their support for continued funding of youth services provided by Surrey Connexions and the Surrey Council for Voluntary Youth Services.

The Council has recently approached the Prime Minster and Ministers in the Department for Education and Skill to seek assurances on the future financial support and development of Connexions in Surrey.

Sue said:

"Connexions Surrey provides essential services that benefit not just local young people, but the whole community because of the social problems that can be prevented from arising.

"Investment in a universal service for young people in Surrey is vital so that all young people in our area have access to support when they need it, and help in developing the skills that will serve them in adult life.

"We need to ensure that Connexions Surrey is put on a sustainable financial footing so that it can continue and develop the excellent services it is already providing."
