Sue Doughty MP prepares a healthy snack with children at Hazel Tots pre-school

5.24.08pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 18th Mar 2005

Sue Doughty, MP for Guildford, will be visiting Hazel Tots on Monday 21st March to help the children and pre-school prepare a healthy snack. The group based in Guildford, Surrey, will be demonstrating the importance of an early introduction to healthy and nutritious food at a special event at the pre-school.

This visit is one of many around the country, seeking to promote the benefits of healthy eating in the under five age group. The event is part of a wider campaign by the Pre-school Learning Alliance, called Feeding Young Imaginations. The campaign is seeking to ensure that all young children get the best possible start in life - working in partnership with the British Nutrition Foundation, to provide practical nutritional support for early years settings and for parents of young children.

Hazel Tots has been open for 13 years and has 31 children on its register. The pre-school is open from 9.00 until 12.00 and offers high quality education and care for children from the age of two until they go to school. Utilising learning through play, the pre-school aims to provide a stimulating learning environment for all its children.

The pre-school is a member of the Pre-school Learning Alliance, a national educational charity with over 15,000 members. Every day around 500,000 young children attend pre-schools in their area and many parents take the opportunity to get involved in volunteering and training at their local setting. This highlights our commitment to children and families providing them with the best possible start in life.

Sue Doughty MP said:

'I welcome this opportunity to help my local pre-school to prepare a healthy snack. Helping young children develop good nutritional habits is key to their success later on in life.'

Julie Ragless, Pre-school Leader said:

'We are always preparing healthy snacks and are proud to be a part of the Pre-school Learning Alliance's Feeding Young Imaginations campaign. We are looking forward to having our local MP in to help us prepare food with the children.'
