MP welcomes safety camera funding

Local Lib Dem MP Sue Doughty was delighted to hear this morning that a safety camera is finally to be sited at the Southway Tunnel. Agreement to this camera comes as a result of a hard fought campaign by Sue.

Sue received news from Guildford Borough Council that they will fund the £6,000 shortfall needed to complete this project.

Sue said "I am appalled that it has taken so long to secure funding and that during this time three students have been attacked. I have been pressurising the Council, the Police and the University to help fund this project and am delighted that Guildford Borough Council has made this commitment. Council Officers are meeting with representatives from the Student's Union to agree the precise location of the camera and in the interim, arrangements are being made for the Council's mobile camera to be temporarily installed to help provide cover".

Fiona White, the Lib Dem prospective country candidate for the area added "Hopefully local students and residents can now use this tunnel without fear of attack".
