MP slams local health under funding

10.21.04am UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 31st Jan 2005

In the wake of the expected deficit of over £3m in the local health service budget Sue Doughty, MP for Guildford said:

"The regular problem of cutting services in the New Year to try to balance the books is unacceptable, and is entirely due to under funding nationally. It is quite wrong that each year waiting lists are extended and other services such as physiotherapy are cancelled. Local people know that these delays can result in more expensive treatment being needed later on. Leaving people in pain and difficulty is no way to manage a modern health service"
