Shalford - Tillingbourne bridge accident black spot: SCC must act now

4.48.43pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 7th Dec 2004

After yet another accident occurred at Tillingbourne Bridge on the 4th of December Sue spoke to concerned local residents .

Sue said:

"It has been a long struggle to establish the case with Surrey County Council for radical improvements to the Tillingbourne bridge on Shalford Road, where car accidents have been happening fortnightly.

On December 4 a Surrey County Council fire engine on active service completely demolished the eastern side of the bridge and caused major damage to the fire engine itself, as well as injury to its crew.

This adds a completely new dimension to the issue, and I call on Surrey County Council to take urgent action to improve road safety at this black-spot site, possibly using crash barriers or else flashing vehicle speed indicators."
