GOVERNMENT MUST HELP COMMUNITY HOSPITALS, BUT NOT BY ATTACKING OUR SOCIAL SERVICES

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 2nd Feb 2004

Sue Doughty, MP for Guildford, has learned that the government now plans to fine Social Services departments who leave patients in community hospitals because no other arrangements have been made for them.

Sue said:

"While this is good news for hospitals such as Cranleigh, it is vital that we ensure that money is there for social services to ensure that patients get the best care in the right place. Home care and nursing homes are expensive in this area and the government must do more to give us the tools that we need. Without this, their plans will just be a sticking plaster and not a cure."
