GUILDFORD MP IS NO APRIL FOOL

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 8th Apr 2004

Responding to reports emanating from Conservative Central Office that Sue Doughty, MP for Guildford, had defected to them, Sue said:

"The Tories may be having a laugh today, but I can assure them that joining them is the last thing I would do. They have no answers about important policy issues such as crime, health and education which would appeal to the voters of Guildford. I intend to remain as Guildford's Liberal Democrat MP for a long time yet!"
