GUILDFORD MP IN BID TO SAVE HISTORIC LOCAL BUS MANUFACTURER

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 8th Apr 2004

The future of Mayflower, the company which owns Transbus International (which includes Dennis buses in Guildford, together with Alexanders and Plaxton's) is seriously threatened following major problems with accounting irregularities. The irregularities do not include Transbus, but its future is threatened with that of its parent company.

Guildford MP, Sue Doughty, will raise with Ministers as a matter of urgency the importance of securing the future of Transbus International.

Sue said:

"The Government must recognise that Transbus is a highly successful company and a key supplier to London Transport. The future of the company must be preserved, along with the jobs of up to 500 people who work either directly for Transbus or for local suppliers".
