GUILDFORD MP WELCOMES GRANT FOR SPINAL RESEARCH WORK

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 27th May 2004

Guildford MP, Sue Doughty, has welcomed the award of a vital government grant to Dr Geoffrey Raisman. The grant is particularly good news for Bramley based charity Spinal Research, which Sue has been closely involved with since her election. The charity has supported Dr Raisman's pioneering work on repairing spinal injuries and will back clinical trials when Dr Raisman's team are ready to proceed.

Sue said:

"The award of this grant is excellent news. Dr Raisman's pioneering work holds enormous potential for treating paralysing injuries that currently cannot be cured. This would transform the lives of many spinal injury sufferers and their carers.

"The Surrey based charity, Spinal Research, has been a principal backer of Dr Raisman and will back the clinical trials that his work is moving towards. Today's announcement brings that a step closer and gives well deserved recognition to the work of both Dr Raisman and Spinal Research."
