GUILDFORD MP FIGHTS FOR DENNIS WORKERS IN PENSIONS BILL DEBATE

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 19th May 2004

Speaking ahead of the debate on the government's proposals to set up a fund to compensate members of failed pension schemes Sue Doughty, MP for Guildford said:

"Over 400 members of the Dennis Group Pension and Assurance Scheme have found that they will have lost much of their pension. This scheme alone has a shortfall of £24m, another fund being handled by the same trustee has a shortfall of £80m. At this rate the £400m promised by the government is not going to meet all the claims.

"Pension scheme members who have trusted their schemes should have full reinstatement of benefits. This was a part of their pay package and they are owed no less. I have tabled amendments to the Bill that would achieve this just outcome."
