GUILDFORD MP WELCOMES OMBUDSMAN'S FRESH LOOK AT EQUITABLE CASE

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 20th Jul 2004

Sue Doughty MP has welcomed today's announcement by Ann Abraham, the Parliamentary Ombudsman, that she would reopen her investigation into Equitable Life.

The Ombudsman has stated she will deal with questions of maladministration and redress, which were not covered by the Penrose investigation.

Sue said:

"This is excellent news for many of my constituents whose financial security has suffered as Equitable policy holders. Finally they will be able to put their case for compensation and a sensible discussion on the magnitude of losses can be had."
