Tory Claims of Saved Incinerator premature

Sue Doughty has expressed concern that claims by her Tory opponent in Guildford that the incinerator vote is almost won could be misleading.

Sue said: "While I hope that he is correct, I have grave doubts that the argument is over. I have pledged myself to continuing the fight against the incinerator on behalf of the people of Guildford. But we need two things to happen: a major commitment to recycling - which is a strong component of our environmental policies, and the assurance that Tory county councillors in East Surrey will not vote for an incinerator to be sited in Guildford."

Sue has also criticised the hypocracy of her opponent. The Tories have on the one hand expressed zero tolerance of any health risks caused by a large incinerator but on the other hand believe that it is justifiable to impose it on the people of Colnbrook. Sue Said "It is clear that they have no waste management ethics and no waste management policies. For Nick St Aubyn to claim that his party supports recycling is a joke - there is not one work in their manifesto about it."
