Liberal Democrat Pre-Manifesto - "Fairness, Freedom, Trust"

The Liberal Democrat Party launched their Pre-manifesto yesterday - the first important stage in the manifesto process, which will take the Party into the General Election.

Following their historic decision in 2001 to back Sue Doughty as their first Liberal Democrat MP, Guildford voters now have the opportunity to hear about some of the key policies she will be campaigning on in the election that is expected next year.

Sue said:

"The recent by-elections won by the Liberal Democrats have shown that the rest of Britain is starting to follow where Guildford voters led in 2001.

"As the Government becomes more unpopular, increasingly the challengers are not the Conservatives, but the Liberal Democrats. While the Conservatives squabble amongst themselves over ever-more outlandish schemes, in the Liberal Democrats we have quietly and confidently set out a clear, costed and popular agenda for Britain.

"Our commitment to scrap the unfair Council Tax will make life much easier for the many people in Guildford who are taxed on the value of their property, despite having low incomes. With our commitments to higher pensions, no more tuition fees, more police on the streets and doctors free from Whitehall meddling we have a programme for government that will help everyone in Guildford."
