Government must stop dithering over services for the elderly

Quality of care for the elderly is a significant concern for most people, according to a poll by Age Concern. The survey reveals eight out of 10 people are "very concerned" about the care they will be given when they get old. Sue Doughty said; "This Government has presided over a shocking collapse in services for the elderly. The Government should stop dithering and start fundamental reform now.

Parliamentary spokesperson Sue Doughty has expressed concern that vulnerable Guildford residents are being left in the dark following Gordon Brown's 10p tax rate U-turn.

611 empty homes in Guildford says Sue

Under the Freedom of Information Act, Sue Doughty has found out that in October last year, there were 611 long-term empty homes in the borough. The number of homes lying vacant in the borough has actually increased by 8%, from 564 in 2006.

Guildford Write-off £102,000 in Council Tax

Guildford Borough Council wrote off £102,000 of Council Tax as uncollectable in 2006-07. Overall, English councils wrote off more than £130m of unpaid tax last year, according to figures from the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Sue questions the government's eco towns

The 15 locations shortlisted for 'eco-town' status have been revealed by the Government but Sue Doughty and the Liberal Democrats point out that only 7% of the three million new houses planned for 2020 will be eco-friendly. Commenting, Sue said, "This sprinkling of green buzzwords is a drop in the ocean and just serves to highlight Labour's complete lack of serious commitment to combating climate change.
